These presidents’ faces are carved into the southeast face of Mount Rushmore in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The sculpture is a constant and ever present reminder of what has had to be accomplished in order to make the United States what it is today.
The four presidents who are depicted on Mount Rushmore are Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Theodore Roosevelt and Thomas Jefferson. These four men were chosen by Gutzen Borglum (the sculptor) specifically for what they had contributed to the future of their beloved country. He chose George Washington for aiding the establishment of the U.S. as a free country, Thomas Jefferson for the drafting of the Declaration of Independence, Abraham Lincoln for ensuring that the United States became truly united, Theodore Roosevelt for overseeing the construction of the Panama Canal. All of these men and their accomplishments have shaped the future of a great country. Read more of this article. Image source.
