Jack the Ripper


During the late summer until the early winter of 1888 a brutal serial killer walked the streets of London hunting for victims. The killer found his prey at least five times in Whitechapel and in surrounding districts, all were prostitutes. When the despicable murderer's victims started turning up, mutilated, in the streets, so did letters to police and press. Whether or not the letters really were written by the murderer himself, as the writer claimed to be, the name on the letters stuck "Jack the Ripper." The police never found Jack, or if they did they were never able to hang him for his crimes. The mysterious case of "Jack the Ripper" has never been solved.

If a person were ever to try to guess the identity of "Jack the Ripper" they would first have to understand the nature of his crimes. Jack was not an ordinary criminal and the murders he committed were particularly atrocious, even by today's standards.
